The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 in Uniondale.
Police were called to the Frontera Bar located at 963 Nassau Road and upon arrival were told by security staff that Luis Meza, 31, of Freeport had caused a disturbance and would not vacate the premises, police said.
Police informed Meza that he had to leave and escorted him a short distance before he refused to move any further and stated to officers that he would not leave, according to police.
Meza was informed he was being placed under arrest and in the process, he struck an officer with his fist, according to police. The officer suffered minor swelling and abrasions to the left side of his face and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Meza was quickly arrested by several other officers at the scene but continued to twist and flail his legs in an attempt to kick the arresting officers, according to police.
Meza was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Meza was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct. He will be arraigned on Sunday, Sept. 8 at First District Court in Hempstead.
